CLUB HISTORY
West Barns
Bowling Club is situated in a village on East Lothians` coast some 2 miles west
of Dunbar.
The clubs earliest minutes are March 1913 . The ground
for a bowling green and small hut were gifted to the
village and
the running of the club was under trustees.
In 1976 the trusteeship was dissolved. At this time a
replacement clubhouse was built with bar facilities.
This was opened by
Mr.Cunningham, who gifted the land to the club. The club flourished from
a membership
of 25 to over 100 but the green was not standard size
and after 13 years, the club was able to rent ground
some 200 yards away from the original ground and build
a new green and clubhouse at a cost of £250,000.
The new green
was opened on 17th.May 1992 by John Bell. The membership has now grown to just
over 300.
The club has gone from strength to strength and has
won the Eastern League nineteen times, all the East Lothian Bowling
Assoc. competitions and have had representatives at
The Scottish Finals at Queens Park and latterly at Ayr.
The club has also produced many excellent young
bowlers, some of whom have been selected for the County
playing in the Hamilton Trophy and trials for Scotland.
Some were members of Scotland`s Junior International Team.
The late Mr. R. Davidson,
Past President of S.B.A. was made an Honorary member in 1979
